For you hockey players!!!! (Banquet)?

I have a hockey banquet tonight but I really don't want to go. I'm just a freshman on the team who really didn't get to play that much so IK all the awards and speeches will go to the older players like Juniors and Seniors who scored all the goals. Also I already went to the dinner and I'd rather just stay home tonight and do my homework and stuff. Also this one kid will be there who's a total to me and I'm going to have to sit with him and stuff which makes me not want to go even more. My mom says if I don't go then I won't make the team next year. Do u think I could just make up an excuse like I'm sick? If I don't go do u think I'll look bad? Do u think I should go?
