Why does my b/f think that it is ok to put his feet on the furniture at the dr office?

We were in the dr's office recently. There were empty seats near us. My b/f is tall with size 16 feet. He put one of his feet up on the seat next to him. I was annoyed about this, but since he has good manners most of the time I thought that he would take his foot down on his own. I was also annoyed about this cause he gives me a hard time about farting at home and not excusing myself. When I had taken enough I asked him politely to remove his foot from the furniture. He looked at me and said, "we put our feet on the furniture at home." I was like, "with your shoes on?" He took his foot down, but not 5 minutes later put it back up on the seat. Did I handle the situation correctly?
