Steering well or steering wheel? a typo?

The correct phrase is accurately, "Steering Weasel" from the french Stereaux Weaset, meaning "to drive the wild weasel". But after it was anglicized it's meaning changed to Steering well and then into steering wheel, where it is commonly found amongst the great literally stories.
